I've been using Filemaker almost continuously since it first came out
in the 80s, and had no trouble setting up databases for work. Now I
have it at home (5.0, Windows), and I want to set it up for my crafts
and hobbies -- ideas, finished projects, materials, etc., for
painting, ceramics, mosaics, sewing, genealogy, books, decor, etc.

I checked out the templates on the CD, and none of the templates seem
to match what I need or to even make a point from which to start. Is
there a place I could find examples of how to best set this up? Any
tips?

Thanks,

Lay out the database conceptually on paper. Is it just one flat file, or
do you need related files? What fields do you need? How would you set it
up in a box of index cards? Once you have answered those questions of
basic design concept, you can define the fields and relationships you
need. You do not need to start with any of the templates given by
FileMaker, just start with a new blank database and define it the way
that meets your needs.
