Have a question about FMP 8.5. Is there a way to protect the record by a
field, or with a script or even a check box entry?

Yes. Look for the user privleges. The right to create, change and delete
records in a table can depend on any calculation you put there. Text
boxes should work, too, though I admit I haven't tried that yet.
