Default Protecting fields - 04-01-2007 , 06:28 AM

Hi everybody,
For years I have tried to avoid that users of a filemaker database
wrongly delete important information from a field that other users had
written previously. It is very common that users thinking they are
searching, modify an already filled field without any chance to
recover the information.
Is there any way to avoid that a field is modified by some users? If
not, is there any way to avoid that the fields are modified after
being filled. My particular problem is huge because all the users
should be able to create new records but I would like to control their
capacity to modify the preexisting fields.
Thanks,
Jokin

Make the field not editable. Use a global field an a script to make
entries.

Or create a separate layout. This layout looks exactly like the main layout,
but is filled only with global fields. The user will use these to enter some
data, then click a button to perform the action he wants. This script takes
him back to the main layout

Keep well, Ursus
