Default Problem closing windows - 11-18-2009 , 11:14 AM

This is weird. I have a layout that contains just buttons to open other
files. When I close multiple windows at once by holding down the option
key while closing, the windows close and a dialog box appears for one of
the files and asks for a password to open it. It's not one of the files
that I just closed, it's a file that's related to one of the guys I just
closed. I don't know why it does this.

If anyone can shed some light I'd be grateful.

Rat.

Check the "on close" script you have defined in the file options. One of
them might need the related file.

Thanks, I should have written that that's the first thing I checked. I
don't have such a script.

And this only happens if I actually do something. If I just look at the
file it closes properly.

There may be no closing script in the file you are closing, but after
you "did something", there were other files opened (perhaps hidden,
perhaps not), and one of those files has a close script you should check
for.

When opening new files FileMaker usually tries to use the same password as

Priviledges, etc. to make sure all the files are set-up correctly there too.

Didn't think of that. So I checked the other files and none of them have
closing scripts.

Well, that brings up another issue I don't understand. I haven't set up
any passwords for any files and yet FMP sometimes asks me for a password.

I thought somewhere I read the reason for this but now I can't find it.

Files converted from older versions of FileMaker are sometimes given a
default password - it depends on which versions you're converting to / from.

I haven't really looked into the passwords / privileges options of newer
versions of FileMaker. You might be able to delete it (try on a backup file
first) or at least change it to a blank password.
