Default Problem with 5.5 Server Setup - 08-11-2005 , 09:26 AM

Our system admin recently had to change servers from Windows NT to
Windows 2003.

However, since moving our databases over to a folder called Fmpro on
our new server I cannot see anything in it using Remote Admin.

I'm trying to find a FMPro server manual in his office, however, any
quick responses that could help alleviate this problem as to why I
cannot see any of our files soon would be greatly appreciated.

Basic setup:

Windows 2003
FMServer 5.5

/{new_server}/Fmpro/{all our FMPro databases}

Thank you for the assistance.

After getting directly on the server discovered that the folder he
moved all the files into was on another directory and *NOT* in the
Filemaker Pro Server folder.

I created a shortcut from the folder holding all the transferred files
under the FMPro Server directory and everything is working great.

Oh, have to thank Paul Bruneau for an Aug 11 2002 post he had on the
subject that helped (after I used the correct search criteria).

Once I read about the need for the databases being directly in the
folder containing the server, everything made sense as to where I
needed to look.

Also don't forget to check that the folder containing your files is not
shared in the OS sense.
It is crucial.

Remi,
How do I do that? I just noticed that although I have not openned up
the files using remote admin, when I press my links, they *are* coming
up!

Well, again, IT depts do not know FileMaker .
Just look first at the thread here called "Re: Please Don't Crucify Me
(FMP7)".
Just to go back to basis again (see the archives), when you want to
share a FileMaker database, you must :
- put it either with a regular FMP or FMS (Server), your DB in a
dedicated PC.
- put FMP (FMS) under Program Files, and under FMP, put the folder with
your files.
- now, the most important, make the whole Program Files folder as Non
Shared in the OS sense. To do that, go to start, MyComputer, select c,
go to Program Files , right click, Properties, then Sharing and there
unshare it.
- put FMP (FMS) using TCP/IP protocol.
- put every file of your solution in a multiuser mode.
- now, the second most important item, call you files from any
workstation by opening its local FileMaker, open an existing DB, and
there, choose the HOST button : you'll see your files...
- you may create a small file Call.fp5 that will be identical for each
workstation. It will have no record, and only a script launched when
opening the file. This script has one line : Open (yourfile). The first
time - on each workstation - select that script line and go to open /
HOST / yr file.
- then at each workstation, call your files by launching this 'Call.fp5'
file.
