I was wondering if someone could let me know what the concensus on printing PDFs through the Web Viewer is. I'm doing a database that stores a bunch of datasheets on products that my company designs and fabricates. We use Adobe's Illustrator to create detailed drawings and I'm intending to have them saved as PDFs so we can reference them in our datasheets through the Web Viewer. On screen, through a web portal, the drawings show up and scale perfectly, as planned; however, whenever I try to print the datasheets, the PDFs don't show up at all, and all I get is an empty rectangle. Regular HTML displays and prints fine, but not PDFs. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! Kane. |

Correct. PDF documents cannot be printed from Web Viewer -- at least not in Windows. You can print if you 'insert as object' into a container field and print the layout with the container field -- but only the first page of the document. This probably has as much to do with IE (on Windows) and Safari (on Mac) as it has to do with FileMaker. I would suggest you make it a feature request, athttp://filemaker.com/company/feature_request.html satisfymycurios... Not what I wanted to hear, but at least I know to stop pulling my hair out. FM Presales wasn't helpful at all as they told me that this was a feature, but would not tell me how or what were the requirements. They tried to point me to tech support, which won't even grant me an audience unless I bought a license -- hence my conundrum. Bizarre though, since I can view and print HTML and Flash, etc. Gah. Go figure. |
