Default Print reports - 12-30-2006 , 12:03 AM

Hi, I am so new to File Maker, it is embarrassing. I have some
experience using MSSQL, but about a week or two with File maker Pro 8.5
advanced. I am trying to build a data base for a non-profit organization. I
have built a tabbed page which roughly corresponds to my tables. Client,
history, budget, and food pantry.
The information I need to collect is working as expected, well more or less.
But its time to design some reports to print out and I have no clue as to
how to design a report with File maker. In another world I would use Crystal
reports and be well on my way.
What I am asking for is a good reading assignment. I have found some
good information from Code Seed and Data Base Pros so far with the data base
but building reports is way over my head tonight. Again, I am not looking to
have someone do my work for me, Rather I want to learn how and why things
work as they do or don't as is the case for now.

Thanks

Joe Mackey

You can print any layout there is. Filemaker does not use this
Table/Query/Report distinction known in Access, every layout can be used
for data entry, printing and searching.

To get startet, use a list layout or create a new one. Then have a look
into layout ranges and statistic fields. Don't be afraid to post more
specifc questions here in when they come up.

Note that these subsummary layout ranges are not shown in browse mode,
only in preview, which means they will of course be printed, and the
calculation of the statistic fields in the subsummary ranges only works
with if the sort order is correct.
