Default Preventing record update in FMP6 - 08-13-2005 , 05:35 PM

I maintain the local roster of a national hobby organization uisng FMP
6. A certain life member has lost interest and asked to be deleted
from the database. I receive periodic update from the national
headquarters. When I update my DB, how do I prevent this individual's
record from being updated? If I simply delete his record, then a new
addition will be made.

Obviously, the request to be deleted should also be passed to and
honored by "National Headquarters".

Could you 'mark' that record to be inactive, and take care of only the
'active' names ? Obviously this should be taken care of by the central
organization rather than yours. Couldn't you talk to them ?
Just my 2 cts.

Remi-Noel has the right of it. Most databases of this type have (or at
least SHOULD have) a field that allows active/inactive as a minimum to
be flagged. Our personnel database has four options
Active/Inactive/Left/Limbo. Updates can then be set to work on th
desired people.
e.g. Newsletters begging for funds go to the 'Actives' and invitations
to return go to the 'inactives' [or better yet in these days of junk
mail and spam the inactives should be granted their right to remain
inactive by not bothering them]
