Default Populate PDF with FM - 01-28-2010 , 08:40 AM

Hi

can this be done ?

Having a template PDF file with forms, send a command from FM10 to
open that PDF file and send data from the database to populate some
fields in the PDF file ??

In a simple way ?? like an URL links ??
I don't do Java or PHP or unless you have an easy template to submit
me :O)

Thank you

JF

Adobe Acrobat has a whole program where you can generate PDF forms, set
up a web-return address which collects the responses, and will feed the
data back in a format which can be imported into FM. For the cost of
the software alone. We saw a demo of this at an FMDiSC meeting and it
was very cool. I don't remember now if you need Acrobat Pro or not.

Or take a look at FMP-PDF Toolkit from Alqemy.

Thank you

I was looking more for a free and easy way. 2-3 forms to fill per
weeks (but I like it when it's automate) :O)

Also found from FileMaker Magazine a Populate PDF video with Java and
free plugins... but it's way to complicate and not made by Matt and
badly explained the way to integrate into a solution...

So you want it both free and taking none of your own time?

Not going to happen.

Either invest the money or invest the time. Your choice. Since there's
always more money to be made, and they're not making any more time
these days, I generally opt for the pre-built solution.

But let us know how the "please do it for me and don't ask for any
money" approach works for you. That's always interesting.

LOL !!

I don't mind taking time to do it right... I've being working full
time to run my business AND making a new solution from FM6 to FM10...

The FilemakerMagazine solution is not suitable, it was not design as a
template (some stuff are hardcoded in button instead of using field
ref, like many other scipt in the same demo file)
so you hate to walk thru all the script, all the button to find out
how it was made, using Java call.... so it's too much for my small
brain I presume!
Matt Petrowsky make greate demo and sample file... the Populate PDF
was made by someone else...

Yeah, sometimes those demo files are more confusing than enlightening.
Matt knows how to build them well. It's a skill not everyone has.
