Harry, et al I would like to know the "simple" solution to getting the blank row in a portal on the top. I have been searching for this elusive beast for too long now. The closest I come is a post from you, Harry, in 2002 or so with a link to a previous discussion and your solution - but the link is dead! There was also an amusing discussion lead by someone claiming to have done this without globals or scripts in version 3. Is there an easy, scriptless solution. Do you have the information? Thanks in advance, |

Easy? Not really. Scriptless? Yes (and requires no buttons or plug-ins). As far as I know there was never any proof / example from that other person as to how (or even if) they actually did it. I posted an example file of my method (FileMaker 5.5, but should work in any version of FileMaker that has Relationships) on the "FM Forums" website at:http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showto...ost/74452/hl// Apologies for the AWFUL slow website if your on a dial-up connection, it's the reason I rarely bother going back there. (Read through that topic though. Apparently changes to the website mean the link in my first message there no longer works. Lee Smith was kind enough to post a new link further down and then mr_vodka kindly posted a version converted to FileMaker 7. (Although I haven't downloaded either of those to check them.) BUT, as I said above, it's not that easy to understand. You may be better off just using either Global fields or a second relationship, and then having an "Enter" button that runs a script to "move" the new data. If you have any questions about it you can ask here and I'll try to remember what I did all those years ago. )Helpful Harry Hopefully helping harassed humans happily handle handiwork hardships ;o) |
