Default Password still active but access privileges have disappeared - 10-13-2005 , 03:47 PM

I have a mileage form I created. I have an admin password set that lets
me change the layouts and calculations. I also have an option for a
blank password that gives limited access (only allowed to
create/edit/delete records).

I sent this form out via email and some people have reported not being
able to use it. Finally this week I was able to watch one of those
people in action.

They open the file, use a blank password, and the form comes up. Now
when they select an option from one of the drop-down list fields it
gives them the error, "This field is not modifiable." I open the same
form and use my administrator password and I get the same error.

But the original still works fine. Where did I mess-up? I'm pretty new
to FileMaker and would really appreciate any help, thanks!

What version of FileMaker are you using?

Did you save a clone (a copy with no records) and send out the clone
immediately? If so,

a) you may be trying to modify a record which doesn't exist yet, and
FileMaker is just giving you a misleading error message

b) cloned databases are not quite the same animal as a normal database. They
are missing certain internal structures. Save a clone again, but this time
open it with the admin password and create a single, blank record. Then send
out this single-record modified-clone version.

Is this behavior 100% reproduceable on this user's system? If so, what
happens when the user logs in with the administrator password FIRST, then
tries to log in with the blank password?

You're welcome to email me a copy of the file and I will take a look at it.
(Be sure to include the password).

With some e-mail programs, and copying from CD on Windows, the database
file becomes read only. Regardless of password you can browse the data
but can't modify anything. This might be your issue.
