Default Password problem - 02-16-2006 , 10:55 AM

I put a password into one of my files to protect. Problem is that the
program is no longer recognizing the password I put in. I have tried
overwriting from my saved files that aren't password protected but no
luck it comes up every time the same way. I even tried re-installing
Filemaker 7 but again no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Passwords are case-sensitive. Are you sure you entered it in correctly?

Was this a conversion from a pre-7 version or were passwords created in 7?

Are you sure the account name you are entering is the same as it was
defined? By default, that dialog will have your preferences-specified
user name, but you will often need to adjust the account name in the
login window to whatever the account name you defined when setting up
your accounts and priveleges.

I didn't change the user name but just added in a password. I have the
same database running on my desktop and it runs fine, doesn't even ask
for a password. The laptop version asked for a password for only 1/6
files the patient visit one. I have tried every iteration I know of the
password including caps lock on and off. I use a limited number of
passwords and this one wasn't unusual. Now I'm stuck on my laptop and
can't use one of the files within my database. Is there anything else I
can do?

Go to passware.com and try their program called FMkey. It has unlocked
several databases that I inherited from my predecessor.

The problem is not with the password, but with the account name. Each
password belongs to a specific account name. If you don't enter the
correct account name upon login, then no password alone is ever going to
work.

I just downloaded it but it is a Windows based program and I use
Macintosh Filemaker 7. Sorry for not making that clear.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I closed the file one evening
and went to open it next morning no go. Tried the admin password still
nothing. I sent it to Filemaker here in Australia and the problem was never
solved.

Seeing you are on a Mac have you tried repairing disc permissions?

Goto Applications> Utilities> Disc Utility select your hard drive and then
Disc first Aid and then run repair permissions. I'm not hopeful this will
work but who knows.

Cheers Brad

I have had fm 7 give me complete fits over not recognizing correct
passwords. I really think it is a small bug in FM. When the password
is as simple as 123 and the account is the user name and it doesn't
work, It isn't the user it's filemaker. Sometimes it will go months
with no problem and then it will just creep up.

Turned out a child had done this while I wasn't looking. Putting Admin
solved the problem.

Might not have done you much good anyway. The Demo won't unlock
passwords longer than two characters.

I would offer to do it for you if the file could be sent.

Matt
