Default OpenOffice FileMaker MailMerge Problems using ODBC - 04-29-2007 , 07:21 PM

I'm attempting to convert from using MSWord to OpenOffice. Since I
regularly MailMerge using a FMP database as a source I was testing OO
this afternoon. Everything works fine except....

If I have a text field in FMP with multiple paragraphs (CR? or CR/LF?)
the breaks between paragraphs are stripped out in the OO mailmerged
document producing a run-together document that's essentially
unreadable.

My question, therefore, is:
Can anyone tell me how to preserve paragraph separation when using
ODBC to mailmerge a document in OO.

I'd note that the MSW mailmerge does preserve the CR when reading from
the same source, so perhaps its an OO problem.

I'd appreciate suggestions on what to do.

Jim Mitchell

I'd try asking on the OO boards. It sounds like FM's ODBC is spitting
up a linebreak sequence that is being ignored by OO. There might be a
way to switch OO to accept a different linebreak. I don't think
there's much you can do on the ODBC side of things.

Another possibility is to perhaps substitute the linebreak character
OO wants into FM via a calculated substitute field.

Dave

My thanks. That sounds right. I've posted a query in the OO Forum.
Let's hope I get something.
