In FileMaker terms a "bound" solution is one that's been put through
the Developer version to create a standalone application and data
files. Those data files can easily be opened in a normal version of
FileMaker by using the Open command in the File menu rather than simply
double-clicking it ... as long as they're not password protected to
prevent you doing that.

If the files are password protected (with or without being bound into a
standalone solution), then you need the person who developed the
solution to give you the password and allow you access. If you are the
developer and have simply forgotten your master password, then you
should really be much more careful. There are a couple of pasword
"cracking" applications around that some people have had success with,
but the only ones I've ever tried have failed on FileMaker 6 files.

I am the one who made it but it was 5 years ago. I seem to remember in
developer there was a choice preventing the bound solution from being
opened by regular filemaker and in fact, it doesn't seem to open. Any
other ideas? I remember many years ago Filemaker would do it for a
fee.....

There may be another password with mroe privileges, but if you used the
option to disable Define Fields, etc. then you're stuck and will
probably have to phone / email FileMaker Inc and see if they do still
unlock files. Or simply start all over again from scratch. (

If you removed the full access (by default asigned to admin account)
with FM Advanced/Developer, and the admin account was the only one
account with permissions to edit the database, there is no way to edit
the database. No cracking utility can brake in the file.

Only FileMaker inc. can maybe retrieve the full access account.

You mention it is five years old. In some of the older versions you could
simply create a new database that has a relationship to the old one. Opening
it via the relation stopped the startup script from executing. You might give
that a try.
