Default one-one relationships problem - 03-31-2007 , 02:32 PM

Hello,

I have a database for a small college. There is a student table, and
a prospect table, in FMP 8.5.

At some point a prospect may become a student creating a one-to-one
relationship, and for various reasons, I must maintain them as
separate tables.

For some reason the relationship is only one directional.

That is, when I am in Students, I cannot display the data from the
Prospect record. It will display the data from the first record in
Prospects, not the supposed related record.

When I am in prospects, I can display the data from the student
record, but only if I create another instance of the student table.

Ultimately what I want is to be able to use the Prospect data in the
Student table. That is, data I collect about a prospect will be the
data the I use for the student: name address email phone etc.

Anybody know why this is not working??!?!

How do you have the relationship defined? In thinking about your two
tables, it is not obvious to me how you would define the relationship
between students and prospects.

Beyond that, I suggest you give some thought to why you have them in two
separate tables. Without knowing the details of your situation, I would
think it makes sense to keep them all in one table, with a field to code
them as to whether they are students or prospects.
