Default Object Name - 03-14-2007 , 10:35 AM

Hi

I'm having so much fun creating my new database in FM8.5 !! is this
normal....

I create an object, give it a name, make that square a Button.... and BANG !
the object name is gone !! and if I try to re-use the same name, already
taken...... when changing the object to a button, it loose his name......but
stay in memory.... if you decide to reasign the button to do nothing, and
back to a regular object..... Voila! the original object name is back
again.....

Why an object don't keep is name when going from a square to a button ??

JF

When you do this, the button is a separate object that is attached to
the original object. You have named the square and that object can
always be referred to by that name. When you turn it into a button, you
are in effect creating a grouped object that can itself be named, even
though the individual objects in that group (i.e. the square) already
have their own names. This is expected behavior as far as FileMaker is
concerned (even though users and developers might expect otherwise).

Creating databases is not meant to be fun ... I'm giving you a
prescription to make five databases in Access to calm you down. ;o)

Calm down? Are you sure you don't mean depress?

Well ... it's basically the same thing when you're over-excited to
begin with, but hopefully making only five databases using Access
wouldn't take them too far into depression. ;o)
