Default Newbies Network question - 10-29-2006 , 03:09 PM

Hi

My friend and I would like to make a small solution to ease is work.
But he can't run EXE file from is office, he can't install FM or a runtime
solution but can have accesto internet.

How can he configure is home PC to host the solution and have a safe acces
from the office to is home (he have a static IP at home)

We are using FM6 but he plan to get 8.5 soon (guess it will be the same
thing)

He use Windows XP with a firewall router.

I know he have to have web compagnion plugin install, but from there ?? I
don't know.

He run FM before he left for the office, how do we get the router, ip
address to only have acces to FM ?!?!

Thank you

JF

You run FM as a Web Publisher. That way the file you have open can be
viewed by any browser. For your router you need to open ports 5353 by
default but this can be changed to any port you specify.
To log on to the web server, you need to point to port 5353 in your
address bar.
If you are upgrading to V8.5 then purchase "The Missing Manual"

Pointing to port 5353 would be done like this.
http://yourstaticip:5353

or

in your router use port forwarding to specify the computer on your LAN
hosting the file then you would only have to use http://yourstaticip
and the router would do the rest and forward the signal to your web
hosted file(s).

I think I got it slightly wrong...the default port is 591. You can use
5353 or any other port, but I believe 591 has been assigned to
filemaker. Bignoel
