Default newbie report question - 07-18-2005 , 12:58 AM

All,

i need some help creating a report...i would like to build a report
that shows the contents of an investment portfolio such as the types of
stocks and bonds. The stocks and bonds are two different tables since
they have different characterstics. It seems that I will have to create
a report for each table since I can only do one table in the body area
for a list report. What I would like is a report that shows the table
of stocks and then the table of bonds since this would be a one page
report. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks,

Jonathan

There are ways to pull data from two files, but they get pretty
complicated and depend on exactly how you've structured the database.
If you're a real "newbie" then you're probably better off sticking to
the two printouts.

Depending on what other things you are wanting to be able to do with
the database, a better idea might be to simply redesign the database
and have both Stocks and Bonds records within the same table - each
record doesn't HAVE to use all the fields, so you can have Stocks
records with data in Stocks fields and Bonds records with data in Bonds
fields. The empty fields won't print and you can have an extra field
used to indicate whether it's a Stock or Bond record.

If you really want to try changing it to use one page printout and keep
two separate tables, then you'll need to supply more details about how
the files are structured (eg. the important fields, any Relationships
linking Stocks and Bonds for the same client / date / whatever).
