We have a program at work that runs on FileMaker. From what I can tell
it just looks like a bunch of elaborate scripts running from
FileMaker. I'm tired of waiting for the programmer to change
something. How can I make changes to the program? Is it just a matter
of learning scripts or what?

The program is Filemaker, which you cannot change. You can change the
file(s), if you have the privileges - they might be password protected.

Assuming the database stores and works data, you'll have to learn about
tables, fields, layouts and relations too. To get started, you might try
the program's help file.
