Default Multiple tables with identical fields - 06-25-2005 , 03:28 PM

I am trying to convert an old database (Paradox 5) in which I had several
tables with data of several accounts, where the fields in all these tables
were the same, but they were distinguished by table names. Within the past
month I started using FMP7, and have not found a way to do this. When I
attempted to do so, while setting up the second table, I got a "Field name
already in use - choose a different one" error message. The only
alternative I have found so far is to use a single table with a field
identifying the account. This would work, but be very clumsy for my
purposes, and wastes memory space.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

There is no reason you can't create a field in every table, each having
the same name, thus:

Table_A::Field_1
Table_B::Field_1
Table_C::Field_1

If it is not letting you create a field with the same name as one you
already have in a different table, then I would say you're not in
different table. You're trying to create two fields of the same name in
the same table.

Go into Define Database.

At the top of that window are three tabs: Tables, Fields and
Relationships.

Click on Tables, and you'll see how many different tables you have.
Double-click one of them and you'll be brought to the field definitions
in that table. When you're in the Fields tab, there is also a drop-down
selector that allows you to move from one table to another.
