Hi I am currently in the process of developing a solution for the company I work for, using FM 8.5 Adv. I have a table which contains data of quotations sent to prospective clients. Each record in this table contains such fields as a VAT rate and a invoice number. On most occasions the VAT rate is the same, but can on odd occasions can vary. The invoice number is only assigned a value greater then zero if the quote is accepted and an invoice issued, which also means the value of the default invoice number is incremented by 1. To assist in the data entry I have a table of defaults, which is a table which contains just one record. This table I have set up as a related table to the quotes table and every quote record is related to this one default record. In testing the data entry using FM in single user mode this works well and allows instant access to default values. My concern is will this work when we eventually network two Macs together. In other words will I find that if user 1 is editing Mrs Green's quote and user 2 is editing Mrs Smith's quote that one of the users will not be able to proceed because access to the single record in the defaults table is required by both users. I hope the above makes sense. Unfortunately, although I have used single user databases for many years, this is my first step into multi-user databases, and I'm just a little unsure if I am proceeding correctly. -- Jeff Wright |
