Mouse wheel scrolls trough records in found set. Is there a way to stop
or change this behavior?

Do not want user inadvertently moving from record to record by touching
the mouse wheel, and so entering data in wrong record.

use one of several third party software to edit the scroll behavior.

use something like AHK (autohotkey)
Which can you script to do heaps of things and then distribute it among your
users as a compiled program. Among other things you can say that it has to
re-direct the mouse scroll to NOTHING when a certain application is active.
Which would do nicely.

Set your opening script to hide and lock the status area. Once you do
that, users will no longer be able to use the mouse wheel or keyboard
shortcuts to navigate between records
