Default Modified fields - 06-05-2005 , 03:25 PM

Greetings

Windows XP, FileMaker Server 5.5, FM6

I have a shared database which contains (among many fields) two fields which
are used for writing descriptive text. When a new record has been completed
it is checked by a superviser who clicks a 'Verification' button and the
record is labelled as verified. Only the supervisor has access to this
function.

Sometimes the text in the two narrative fields needs to be changed after
verification so these fields cannot be locked from further entry. However if
further editing does occur I need the record to switch back to unverified,
and to label itself with a string saying 'Modified at hh:mm on dd/mm/yy by
Username'.

I can't use record modification for this as other fields in the record will
be changed over time without affecting verification.

Anyone got a good suggestion?

Thanks in advance

Ted

which to hang any "after modification" action.

Thanks Tom - looks great but it seems to be for FM7 only - I'm using FM6.2

Ted.

My bad; I really should learn to read more closely.

I would display the two fields you want to control in read-only mode on the
main layout with a button next to them that the user has to click to modify
those fields. That button activates a script that switches to a layout with
one or both of these fields in editable mode, and uses the "set field"
script step to manage the date, time, user, and verified flag. You could
put an OK and Cancel button on the edit screen which updates the date, time,
etc., or reverts the editable fields respectively.
