Default Migrating to FMP Version 11 - 02-03-2011 , 02:13 AM

Hello All
The company here is considering upgrading to Filemaker Version 11 from
version 7, we are currently trialling it.

One of the problems that we had in Version 7 was that the scripts
would not hold print setup information such as the selected printer
and page size etc. At the time Filemaker told us we should upgrade to
version 8 and the bug had been fixed there.

However from what I have seen with version 11 so far, it doesn't seem
to be any better (in fact, maybe it's worse). The printer always
changes to whatever it was last set to, and disregards the selection
in the script.

Has anybody else had this problem, or is it something that we are
missing here?

Many Thanks
JayBee

Hi Jenny,

did you use the Print Setup [Restore; No dialog] script-step?
I never had any problems, but I only use one printer.

Hou je goed / keep well,

Ursus

Print settings seem to have changed in just about every version of
FileMaker since 7. It more or less works in 11, though not perfectly.
There are some printer plugins out there that may work better:

http://www.fmbutler.com/index.lasso?p=367
http://www.productivecomputing.com/p...printer-id-79/

However, here is one change that gets a lot of people: If you store in
your script the settings from the Print step, then they will take
precedence over the printer settings stored with the Print Setup step.

I used to pop up the Print Setup dialog for users to change their
printer (aside from changing the printer, there's not much damage a user
can do to your intentions there) and then I'd suppress the Print dialog
(because I needed to store with it whether to print just the current
record or found set printed, which I DON'T want users changing). The
other benefit to doing it this way is that for multi-print jobs (multi
layouts or multi found sets) you still only needed to pop up a user
dialog once to grab the preferred printer.

I can't do it that way any more in 10 or 11. And there are not a lot of
good answers, as far as I'm concerned. I suggest making a feature
request if this is an issue that concerns you:
