merging fields? -

I hope this isn't a stupid question.... what is the purpose of mergina two fields? I'm afraid to try it in case I can't "undo" it. I could just back it up on CD and then try it I guess, but I'm not sure what the purpose is. Thanks for any replies, Scottie Armani |

What do you want the end result to be. 1). All of the information in two fields, in two different files, to be combined into one of the fields in one of the files? 2). Combine the two existing fields into a third field? In other words, are you mixing up the term "Merge" with "concatenating text" fields, "Importing" or "Exporting" file formats, or the use of merge fields in layouts? I was just a little confused as to which "Merge" function in FileMaker you were referring to, is all. That is why I asked you take a look at the on-line help for Merge, Concatenating, Importing, Exporting etc. Just paste "merge fields" into the Index Window of FM On-Line Help and it discusses the the different Merge functions.
