Default merging contacts records and emails - 06-22-2005 , 04:32 PM

Currently I have a client database serverd with FMP7 server. I also run
the Cyrus mail server that comes with OS X and use Eudora email clients
on OS X 10.3.9
I keep client data in the Filemaker databse.
I have a mailbox for every client on the server.

It's a bit of a pain keeping the contact details and email separately.
Having to navigate two different hierarchies. Information presented in
two different places. Duplication of effort, eg a new client means a
new FM record, and creating a new IMAP mailbox. Which seems to take an age.

I would really like to streamline this and have all the client emails
stored in filemaker so that the list of emails is presented alongside
the client information, and I don't have the hassle of having to create
and navigate mailboxes. But how to do this is not obvious, so I'd be
grateful for any hints.

One way might be to do a lot of Applescript, ie filemaker drives an
applescript that copys email text out of eudora, pastes it into a
filemaker record, and deletes the email. I don't like that, my
Applescript skills are very basic and it sounds like a lot of work.

Another way - I think I read somewhere that Courier (mail server) uses
normal finder folders rather than mailboxes to store mail. If this is
true then it may be possible to write a script that would automatically
create a mail folder hierarchy mirroring my client DB. And then have a
filemaker script or Applescript to trawl this hierarchy and put links to
the individual emails in container fields.

Has anyone with more experience than me got any helpful comments or
suggestions. It'd be really nice to work out how to do this, but I
don't have the time for anything too complicated.

Thanks.
