Default Making View as Table user friendly - 09-25-2005 , 08:34 PM

I have created an application with several lookup tables. I would like
users to be able to edit these tables using "View as Table" but there
doesn't seem to be a way to add user-friendly features such as button
with scripts to this type of view. I would like to avoid using menus for
navigation amnd use only buttons.
So far the only way seems to be to put buttons in the footer section of
the layout and use "View as list". This is not as useful as the
spreadsheet mode of "View as Table".
Is there a way around this?

I don't have FM running but in Layout Setup for the "Table" button, you
can specify things like make columns sortable, resizable etc. In there
you can also specify to include the header where you can put your
buttons / menu bar etc.

You can specify that the layout, even when in Table view, display a header
and footer part. You should be able to put all the buttons you want there.

Hope this helps,
Denis

Here is some additional advice for newbies like me.

I have realised that I needed an easy way for users to instantly return
to the main menu after previewing a report. As I didn't want buttons
showing on the printed report I checked whether there is a way to make a
keyboard shortcut to a script in FM8.
The help system does not cover this but it turns out the first ten
scripts in Scriptmaker are automatically assigned hotkeys (Command-1 to
Command-0 for Mac). So I created a script to Enter Browse Mode and Goto
my Main Menu layout. I put this at the top of the script list and presto
- users just need to remember to press Command-1 (or hopefully Control-1
for Windows users) to return to the main main from anywhere in the
application.
Maybe there is a way to display buttons in Preview but not include them
on the printed report?
