FMP 9 or 10, Mac or Windows, remote database on FileMaker Server 10, access via FileMaker network with SSL. Script step to Show Status Area, Lock, does not seem to lock it in the visible position. The user is able to hide the status area in spite of the script step that supposedly locks it. Is this a bug, or am I not doing it right? Background: Normally have Status Area hidden, in accordance with widely accepted practice. In some scripts, have step to show the status area before a Pause, then later hide it. I show the status area in order to make the Continue button visible while the script is paused. This is particularly necessary when pausing in the Preview mode to let the user examine a report before printing it. I also have Continue buttons in layouts that are intended for certain user input during the script pause. However, layout buttons don't work in the Preview mode, and I have the buttons set not to print, even if they are on the layout, so they don't show up in the Preview mode. Users do unexpected things. I have a general expectation that a user will do anything that can be done, even though that is not what he is supposed to do in the circumstances. So making the design as foolproof as possible is very desirable. Hence my attempt to Lock the Status area in the Visible condition in the Show Status Area script step. But the lock does not prevent the user from hiding the Status Area. What is wrong? |
