Default Linux Server - 08-31-2005 , 05:56 AM

Does anybody know anything about whether Filemaker is ever going to
provide a Linux version of FM server? We were holding off upgrading to FM7
until the Linux server version was released but there is no mention of
Linux on the FM8 server page...

As I remember FMS5.5 was usable on a linux server. And not to knock
MAC OS server, not having used it-- I would use a Linux server because
the hardware/software costs are neglible. That is not true for the
other two OS.

The hardware costs of Linux are the same as Windows, it being the same
hardware. Apple brand hardware does tend to be a bit premium.

But lets face it, a Mac mini with OSX or a typical P4 Windows XP Pro box
are perfectly adequate for the majority of Filemaker installations.

Your grossly overstating the cost of the "other two OS".

FWIW I also would like to see an FM Linux server, because I like having
choice, and I like Linux. Not because I think its going to be a pile
cheaper... because it wouldn't be.
