Default linked tables, views, etc. from frontend to backend - 11-06-2005 , 06:23 PM

Hello folks,

I need to build a db front-end to permit clients using Macs to maintain
a table in a MySQL back-end. These data must also reside in their front-end
so the backend merely receives a copy of what is in their front end. I
currently make use of Access for Windows users because I can compile the
DSN-less VB Script connection strings that permit the pass-through queries
required for appends, views, etc. (i.e. a *.mde front end). Is FileMaker as
a front-end capable of doing these sorts of things? Can it be compiled such
that the scripts necessary to coordinate the communications with a backend
are secured? If not, can someone make any suggestions to bring Mac users
into this fold?

Thanks very much for any assistance,

Dave

Haven't used MySQL as a back end but have used Oracle, worked well with
ODBC. If you don't need anything fancy you should be able to do the
same with MySQL without the help of the "PDM SQL" plugin.

Um, thanks but I don't see the suggestion here. Can the FileMaker script
make use of DSN-less connection strings?

Sorry, missed the bit about the DSN.
Unfortunately I can't comment on this.
