Hello all,

I am using the "//" and "::" options on my main layout, however the
time or date wont refresh unless I move to a different view and back
or other means that make the program refresh.

Is there a way to make the :: Time refresh at leat every minute or so?

Version not specified. Answer assumes at least FM7:

A free plugin called zippScript
(http://homepage.mac.com/jkornhaus/filemaker/) will schedule a script
to run at a specified time in the future or after a specified duration.

See http://www.virtualvermont.com/FMP/FMClock.fp7.zip for a demo of a
continuously updating "clock."

You can do the same thing with a normal looping script that pauses every
1 seconds, but it's HIGHLY annoying for people trying to use such a
silly system.

Yes, a pausing looping script would do that. The zippScript method just
clicks away the time and does not interfere with other scripts or use of
the file.

I can't see how it can run a FileMaker script without interrupting
FileMaker, but I've never used it so I'll believe you that it does.
Of course, I can't speak to all possibilities, but in what observations I've been able to make (testing by adding the feature to various existing solutions), the clock display update happens quickly enough that it doesn't interfere with anything I'm doing.

In one step, the clock field is updated with Get ( CurrentTime ) and the script is scheduled to run again one second later. No pauses, no user interaction necessary. It just happens.

I could send you a runtime, if you like. It wouldn't prove anything related to more complex solutions, but it would demonstrate how it works.

No thanks, I'll believe you. )
Besides, I don't really want to download a multi-megabyte runtime over
my dial-up account. (
