Default Import Mapping-Drives me NUTS - 08-02-2005 , 01:53 PM

Has anyone figured out a way to sort the names for the file that you are
importing from. I just about tried everything short of Creating a new file!

Thanks!

(I'm talking FMP7, if you are not using FMP7 then this may well be
irrelevant))

There are a one or two automatic sorts that you can do in the Define
database field list, for example you can sort by type of field,
alphabetic by field name, or even by comments. If one of these is what
you are looking for then do that first. Now go beyond your "short of.."
and export the file to a new Fp7 database file. The fields for export
will be listed in the order that you have just defined in the Define
database list. Do your import from that database and they will turn up
in the import box in the same order.

Another advantage of exporting first and then importing is that you can
remove all the fields which will be reclculated anyway so they do not
clutter up the import file list.

FMP6.0/WinXP Pro

I realized in my haste and frustration, I did not make my self very clear.
The problem I am having is when importing from another file. The field
names of the file that the information is being imported from cannot be
manipulated to appear in "Field Name Order" but instead what is more than
likely creation order. Has anyone figured out a way to do this?

Thanks!
