Default Import huge database into FM7 question - 07-27-2005 , 04:01 PM

Hello.

I have been assigned the task of updating a non-profit company's
database system from an earlier version of Filemaker (3.x i believe)
into Filemaker Pro 7.

This database includes two seperate files of records, as well as a
complex menu system created with ScriptMaker. The client is wanting to
have the updated appearance and functionality of FM7 (basically the new
bells and whistles, interface).

Now I know I could totally rebuild the database from the ground up, but
is there a way to import these scripts and files into FM7, and make
them viewable/workable with the new interface? My attempts so far have
only imported everything, but it has the same interface as the older
version of FM (very Win95 looking). So how can I insert all of this
data/scripts/etc into FM7 and make it all LOOK like it was created in
FM7...

If I was unclear in any of this, please let me know. I would really
appreciate the assistance to whoever is grateful enough to help.

Andrew

The same answer as to your earlier question.

The "FM7 Look" doesn't just happen by itself. It isn't built in. Somebody
at FileMaker thought it up and implemented it.

The design is what you make it.

To clarify one thing, if you drag the existing files all at once and drop
them onto the FileMaker icon, your database will be converted to FM7, with
scripts, relationships, etc., intact.

It will still be the same number of files and it will look the same as the
old one, but it's a start. Now start redoing the look and playing with the
new features.

Wait for fmp 8, is around the corner according to different sources.
Then you probably will find some new possibilities as well.
