Default import from clipper - 07-27-2005 , 08:07 AM

I have a clipper database file that my client wants to import into filemaker
pro version 3 on a Mac.
The mac floppy will read dos files.

I can produce a comma delimited file exported from clipper.

Do I have to create identical fields in the same order in filemaker for the
import or can the first record of the clipper database contain the new field
names?

Any help would be appreciated

Malcolm

It has been a while since I worked in 3, but I seem to recall it being the
same as 6 & 7.

5-7 allow you to simply open a delimited text file in FileMaker, creating
a new FileMaker file. Try that first.

If you have to import, you will be presented with a window in which you
can click and drag the source fields up and down the list to map them to
their destination fields. You can also choose not to import a field.

If you do create identical field names, you can just select "matching
names" and it will be done. Depending on how many fields you have to map,
creating the identical names might not be a bad idea.
