Default I'm new here - 03-09-2007 , 02:12 PM

Hi,

I'm new to this group. I don't know if I will stay, but we'll see. I
used to follow a fmp-group years ago, but somehow it stopped. I guess it
had to do with the fact that I stopped developing in fmp

I am Dutch. Live in the heart of the Netherlands on the border of a
nature-reserve called de Veluwe.
My skills in fmp used to be reasonable, but that was years ago (fmp 5).
Now I'm a bit rusty as I'm finding out.. :-(

My computer is a g4 mac digital audio (upgraded) with macox's latest
version.

the version of fmp I'm using is 8.0v3

I'm hoping you folks have the patience to deal with my prob. stupid
questions, as I said, I'm a bit rusty.

My first problem I want to post is prob. very simple (as I remember, it
was), but I seem to not be able to get it to work the way I want.

I want to build a relational db, in where I keep pricing-records of
shopping articles, articles in their different form and comparable
articles from different labels. also I want to compare pricing in
different shops with comparable articles.
f.e.
article A comes in 3 labels 1, 2 and 3,
article B comes in 4 labels 1,4, 5 and 6
(etc)

Also
label 1 has 5 articles A,B,C,D and E,
label 2 has 3 articles A,D, F and
label 3 has 3 articles A,C and G
(etc)
if I make a listview and make a new record, I want to have popups
showing only the related articles with their labels and vice.

somehow I cannot get this to work the way I want it.
so I need a little help.

It sounds like you're trying to create pop-up menus / lists that are
based on the entry in a previous field ... but you're example seems to
have a confusing circular reference:

article A comes in 3 labels 1, 2, 3
but label 1 has 5 articles A, B, C, D, E

Technically it probably could be done using duplicate fields and
multiple relationships, but it would be extrememly messy.

You'd be much better to enter the information in one difrection -
always Article then Label, or always Label then Article.

Or maybe I'm just not understanding correctly.
