Default I'm new to FMP 7 - 03-10-2007 , 04:31 AM

Hi All,

I've spent the last week teaching myself FMP 7.

I've managed to create a database to track faults. So far, everyone
that will use the database is extremely happy with what I've done,
except for me.

There are a couple of things I just can't figure out.

1) I have two fields that are set to number, these fields will be used
to track the reference numbers of faults. All of the reference numbers
start with a zero. But when I look at the entries these fields loose
the leading zero. How can I make the leading zero appear when browsing
records?

2)We have two separate divisions, one is LD and the other is MOB. I
would like to be able to launch FMP and instead of going directly to
the current database I would like it to load up to an Intro page
whereby I can get three separate options: A) LD B)MOB and C)Both. Can
this be done and how?

That's all for now.

I'm currently working on improving the layout format. My graphic
designs skill are non existent. This will be the fun part.

Thanking you all in advance.

Rgds,
Dolphy

1) Set the field to text (even if you only type numbers) If you ever realy
need them as number you can use a calculation
2) create a layou MENU, put as many buttons on it as you need. Set each
button to go where you want it to go and set the startup layout (unfer file>
options) to go to the menu layout

Keep well, Ursus

As others have said, change the field from a NUmber ot Text type. That
way the field will retain leading zeroes.

Of course, since ALL codes have a leading zero you could simply ignore
them anyway (or if for some peculiar management reason they have to be
there, you could manually type a 0 onto the layout(s) in front of the
field using the Text tool).

That would depend on what being in LD or MOB or both is supposed to
mean to users, eg. allow / disallow access to certain records, simply
show a different layout, etc.

1. A) Numbers are for performing math, and B) no number has a zero in front of it. If the field is not involved in that, you want text.

2. Create a menu layout (any table) with buttons (text, image, whatever) scripted to go to other layouts as necessary.
