Yes.

There are several, depending on what you want to do. You can make the
fill color the same color as the background. You can make the field 1
px x 1px. You can place the field in a portal with a relationship
that can be conditionally set.

What do you want to do?

You could stick the field behind behind something, such as a graphic
element or another field that is not set to transparent.
You could make the field size 1 pixel x 1 pixel and put it just about
anywhere.
EIther way, I would make sure it is not part of the tab order and set
the Behavior to not allow entry, just in case.

Yeah, I understand that. Why do you want a field on a layout that a
user can't see? What are you trying to accomplish by doing this? Why
not leave the field off of the layout entirely?

The obvious way to do that is to simply not put the field on the Layout
at all. )

There are a few reasons why a field must be on a Layout (eg. using the
Copy or Paste script commands*), but otherwise it is not necessary to
have the fields on Layouts.

* In this case you might want to consider using Set Field instead
since that does not need the field on the current Layout.
