Default Help with FileMaker 7 - 06-10-2005 , 11:33 AM

hi im a beginner to filemaker 7 and have been trying to make a few
things work in it.

1. Is it possible to make two relationships between two different
tables but use the OR logic instead of the AND logic statement that
automatically shows up when viewed in the edit relationship box?

2. I would like to show information in portals horizontally instead of
the default vertical view. is it possible?

3. I have trying to use scripts and would like to have it triggered by
going to a different record. I have been able to create buttons which
go to the next record and perform the script. but the problem is that
some people use the Control+UP/DOWN arrows to browse records and so the
script does not run in those instances. How can i embed the script to
run whenever a record is viewed?

thanks for the help. i have been trying to find solutions for these
issues for a long time.

No, but you can put the OR logic in the relationship graph and
calculations. Make two separate relationships and Table Occurances, each
with one component of the OR test, and in your calculation, test on each
one.

You can make multiple portals, each with one portal row, by specifying
different starting rows in the portal formatting dialog. You can even
have their starting row all based off a global field, so when that field
is incremented each portal will begin with a row calculated off that
global value.

No native horizontal portals at this time, but the workaround isn't
terribly difficult.

If you lock down that status bar and script all navigation, it's easier
to control user movement and trigger scripts. There are various plugins,
including EventScript from www.softs4humans.com, Troi Activator, and
Events from New Millennium, which will trigger scripts under various
conditions. Most conditions require a change in a value in a field, but
look at all three, one or more may work on record change.
