I just migrated our Filemaker databases to version 8.

I'm running Server Advanced 8 on a G5 Mac dual processor machine in
conjunction OS X server. Nothing else except the databases are
running. The problem is it takes forever for the PC clients to open 5
fairly simple databases. I am using a "open file" script, in an
otherwise blank database to launch the databases I want. It has always
worked just fine in the last several versions of FM Pro, but with 8 it
takes about 10 times as long.

On a Mac client, the 5 databases open in less thant 10 seconds.
However, on a PC client it takes several minutes, and I get the "(not
responding)" notice in the title bar of the database's window. If I
leave the thing run for a few minutes, eventually all the databases do
open and the performance is quite good after that. Anyone have any
ideas why it is hanging so badly during the launch sequence?

I'm guessing you should be using "Open Remote" not open files if you
are using server.

I figured out what the problem was. Most of these databases were
referencing other databases. As a result of the conversion, some were
first looking for the referenced databases in places that no longer
existed before giving up and moving down to the second place in the
list. I want in got rid of the bad links and now it is pretty snappy.
