Default Grouping data with different headings - 07-30-2005 , 11:31 AM

I have tried everything I can think of to get this report to work but I'm
beginning to wonder if this is even possible. I need to display groups of
data in a report. Simple enough. However, the groups are of different data
with different headings for the fields in each group. I have been able to
get this to work using sub-summery parts but the problem is that the headers
for the groups (in separate sub-summery parts) will show even if there is no
data within the sort fields. There are 5 different groups of data. Short
of defining a script that will do the sort differently for all the possible
permutations of 5 groups, (a huge undertaking) is there any way to do this
that I haven't thought of? What am I not seeing?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Al

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm confused. You may have to give
an example of the data and the desired report format.

If you're getting a heading, then at least one record has a new value in the
sort field. Remember, though, that blank is a value.

Often, I'll create a calc field for categories that equals "uncategorized"
where the category field is blank, else the category, and show that one in
the header. That way the uncategorized records don't create a "mystery
group".

Hope this helps.

The "mystery group" / "uncatogorized" part of the report is often
helpful to letting you know someone isn't entering data fully. )
