Default Go to Related Record - 11-16-2006 , 02:35 PM

FMP 8.0v3

Ever since FMP changed to relationships, I can't get my head around a
simple way to go to related records.

I have a database that has a name field and a number field (among other
stuff). The name has many numbers associated with it. This db has two
tables, joined by name and number.

How do I do a script to go to related record from one table to another
when I click on a number? When I look at the dropdown list for Go to
related record from table and using layout, I don't see what I want.
I've read the help guide, I swear, but now I think I've got a mental
block. I just don't get it.

If someone could spell it out for me in simple terms, or tell me where
I could find more info, I'd be forever grateful.

Go to Related Record will always give you the option of selecting any
Table Occurrence in the database, then allowing you to select any layout
which is set up to display records from that table.

If the layout you want doesn't display after you've selected a table,
then it is not set up for that table.

Go to the layout, select Layouts/Layout Setup, and confirm what the
"Show Records From" dropdown says.

Tell us a little more. What are the names of each table? What fields
(relevant to the relationship) do they contain? How are they related?

Is the number field you're clicking on in a portal? Is it a field from
the same table the layout is based upon?

As Matt Wills pointed out all TOs are in the list (though the two
tables have to be related or the
function will fail), so you must not see the layout you want. The
layout must not be based on the table you're looking for. (One cool
feature of GTRR is that the layout selection depends on the underlying
table, not just the related Table Occurance.) Or you're not starting
from the tale you think you are.

With a little more info, someone may be better able to help.
