Default "gathering records" crash - 03-19-2007 , 05:31 AM

Hi,

I have upgraded v4 to v8 server (5 clients on 8.5) on windows.

I have a script to delete a record.
When this is run, I get a progress bar and a message "gathering
records" and a coffee cup. The progress bar never moves, and the
system hangs, and several other users get coffee cups too.
There is virtually no load on the server (2%cpu usage).
Only way is to force closed all the machines with coffee cups.

What is "gathering records"?
Why doesn't it work?
Is it as a result of the upgrade?
I do I fix it?

many thanks

Tim

running a repair on the offending file seems to have done the trick.

Glad it is solved, but remember that a repair is only a temporary trick. It
allows you to open any damaged file and rescue the data in it. But it is not
meant that you keep on using a repaired file. If you do all might go well
for a while, but without any warning this error (or any other) might crop up
again. Normaly you would re-import the data in a clone (backup) of the file
from before the trouble started. If in this case the trouble started because
of the transition this is a problem. You might try to make a clone from V4
and transfer this to V8. Then import the data in the empty clone. Otherwise
the only solution is a rebuild.

Keep well, Ursus
