Default Formating <<numbers>> - 12-17-2005 , 01:26 PM

Hi,
I am looking to format numbers using the thousands seperator. ie;
123,321. within formatted text.<<num,ber>>.

I can get the number to appear fine by just entering the <<field name>>
however it shows up without the thousands separator.

Is there a simple way to accomplish this instead of trying to place the
field itself in just the right position?

TIA,
Charlie

If I read this correctly, you're using a <<merge field>> to display the
number?

Format a merge field the same way you would format a regular field.

In Layout, select the <<merge field>>, then use Format/Number to set
the format with separators, decimal places, etc.

Yep, that works ... as long as you want ALL the numbers within that
same text block formatted that way.

If you want different merge field numbers formatted differently (eg.
one is a currency and another isn't), then you'll need to use a
Calculation field that returns a Text value to "format" the data as
needed and put that fieldin as the merge field, although for something
as simple as a currency it's probably easier to simply type the "$" or
whatever symbol manually before / after the merge field.
