Default FMPRo problem or Apple? - 07-21-2005 , 04:07 PM

Hello again,

We have FM Server 7 on a 1.6 GHz iMac G5 w/256 MB RAM. The server is
dedicated and runs no other programs. File Sharing is turned off. We
have several (never more than 6) eMac G4s and iMac G5s as clients.
Server and clients are all running OS 10.4.1. One of the G4s has an
intermittent problem only in FM Pro. It responds to typing slower and
slower, and the user must either wait or get 2-3 sentences ahead (we
have a Notes field where we record a narrative).

I don't believe this is because of other actions going on, such as a
large find or sort by another user. Other users don't suffer the same
problem.

At least one time on the eMac in question, the FM Pro window disappeared
when the "slow typing" syndrome was going on. The user restarted her
computer, and FM Pro let her log in but wouldn't let her alter the
record, saying that "? (?)" was modifying the record. We had to re-start
the server before it would release the record.

I've read the support docs at FileMaker by the way, particularly
regarding "slow" server behavior, but nothing fits my situation well.

I'm deciding whether to use my one free FMPro tech support question for
this. I figure they will just tell me to call Apple since it's happening
on only one client. But it's happening only when logged into the FM
server.

Tonight I'll try to get the eMac upgraded to 10.4.next; it's a lengthy
project over a 28.8k modem.

I'm just trying to scout around and see if anyone else has seen this
behavior.

Thanks,
Amanda
