Default FMPro 8 Server Admin - two problems - help please? - 10-20-2005 , 03:24 AM

1) My Filemaker 8 Server admin application will not allow me to set
the cache size or cache flush period. When I try to change these
settings the dialogue insists that the number of databases must be
between 1 and 0!!! Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

2) Similarly, I have set up a global repeating field in one table
(using FM8 Advanced), but if I enter data into the field
a) no other users can not see the data, and
b) if I quit FM Pro Advanced and then return to the same database, the
data I entered has disappeared (even if I wait an hour before
quirtting and returning to the database)

Is 2 likely to be linked to 1

1) I don't know.
2) 'Globals' are local, ie specific of the current user.
If you wish to keep the data in one of those for ever, the best practice
is to create a special table (file) with one record and use normal
fields in it. They can be addressed from any other table (file) - in
FMP6 by a relationship through a field Constant = 1 -.

Did you install FileMaker Server on a Mac or a PC.
If on a PC what version of windows are you running and what service
pack?
If you had FMS7 installed before hand did you uninstall it?

The Server is running under Windows Server 2003, and we followed the
installation instructions to the letter, including un-installing
Server 7. The problem occurs with Filmaker Server Admin, whether this
be on the host machine (i.e. the server) or from a remote machine - we
cannot set the maximum number of databses to be hosted nor the Cache
size nor the cache flush period, because the Server Admin insists that
the maximum number of databases is between 0 and 1!!!

All client machines are running Windows XP, with the latest service
packs etc.

Having said this we have not noticed any problems with the databases,
but it is somewhat disconbcerting that we cannot perform some of the
administartion procedures!!
