Default FMP8 uses fp7 icon? - 12-08-2005 , 02:44 PM

Hi --

I recently upgraded to FMP 8, but when I save a new file in this
program, it appends .fp7 to the document name, not .fp8 -- and if I
change the 7 to an 8, I lose the FMP blue&white icon.
What's up with that?

thanks

albert

PS -- thanks for the recent tips on the FMP8 >> FMP8 Advance
comparison/update.

FileMaker 8 files are not .fp8, they are .fp7, in the same fashion as
FileMaker 6 files are .fp5. Two versions of the software using the same
file extension.

You lose the icon beause your computer has no way of knowing what an
..fp8 file is supposed to be. The extension is not registered anywhere.

I suggest you allow the applcation to decide what extension to put on
its files.

Matt

Nothing to worry about.

FM7 & 8 use the same file format, and the extension is fp7.
FM5 & 6 use the same file format, and the extension is fp5.
FM3 & 4 use the same file format, and the extension is fp3.

-cheers,
Dave
