I'm not an expert. Helping a school with FMP 7 and server 7, upgraded recently from FMP6 and server 5 (it's a Mac system, for what that's worth). I'm sure the behavior I'm experiencing is due to idiocy on my part, but if people could show me what I'm doing wrong I'd be VERY appreciative! I copied the files before messing with them, by opening a connection to the server (not through FM) and dragging them to my desktop. This seemed to give me current copies on my laptop. Then I signed onto the server through FM, as a client (full privileges), and changed some records. Then I wanted to revert to the original file. I dragged the original from my desktop to the server window, and it seemed to replace the one on the server. What's happening now is this: I sign on again as a client, and the (changed) file still opens. When I try to delete the changed records, I can select 'delete' and I get the warning dialog, but nothing else happens. If I add a new record, I can delete it. But I can't delete any of the existing records. So, if I open the file through FM, the changed records (that I wanted to delete) are there. But if I open the file by double-clicking it in the server window on my desktop (and ignoring the shared-file warning dialog box), the original file opens (without the changes)! One difference is that when opened through FM, I have "filename (server)" in the window heading. When opened directly, only "filename" is there. I've tried to determine if both the filepaths are _really_ to the file on the server, but I'm not sure how to do that positively. Visually it seems as though they are, but I know that can be tricky, like cached browser files... any help would be very appreciated. |
