Activation was only used in FMP9 (and FMP9A).
The manual for FMP 10 still described the mechanism but it wasn't
actually in the application. It isn't even listed in the manual for FMP
11.

Yep. It's nothing but a pain in the sit-upon for legimate users. Adobe need
to drop the silliness from their software as well.
When I was installing Adobe InDesign for a client a while back, it refused
to connect to the server for authentication, and the phone number you were
supposed to ring didn't work either.

Then you've got the idiotic problem of de-authorising applications, which is
impossible if the computer / hard drive dies!
