Default FMP 6 - 07-06-2005 , 11:49 PM

I found FMP 6 for Windows
at a reasonable cost and have purchased it.
Now I will need to import/convert Paradox 8
anything to be aware of?
Terry

You should be aware or FileMaker Pro 7.
Considering what it does, the full
retail price is not bad.

You can't import / convert a Paradox database (or any other database
files) directly into any version of FileMaker Pro - the only excpetion
is "database" created in an Excel spreadsheet.

You'll have to re-create the database's structure in Filemaker and then
export the data from Paradox to an ASCII / Text file which can be
imported into your new FileMaker version of the database.

Each field should be separated by a Tab character or a comma, and each
record by a Return character. I don't know about Paradox, but most
database application will do this automatically when exporting data.

If you have any Text fields in the original Paradox file that contain
these characters you may have to replace them by something else first,
export and import that data, and then re-replace the characters once
the data is in FileMaker.

FileMaker will also accept a few other file formats when importing
data, eg. SYLK, Excel, DBF, etc.
