Default fmp 6.0 to 8.5 conversion--gtrr in portal does not work - 12-26-2006 , 01:03 PM

I converted my fmp 6.0 db to 8.5. Part of the dB includes two
files:company and contact.

I have a portal in the company main screen with a button to click and go
to related record. It works fine in six. Other gttr's in other files
and portals work so far. However, the gtrr in the portal of the company
file is not working correctly. No matter which record I click on, it
will only go to the first record in the portal. Whatever button I click
on, the whole portal flashes red and then goes to the first record in
the portal.

The only thing that I see wrong is that in the layout mode, the left
hand corner of the portal says: company 2(in 8.5);while it says:
company(in 6.0).

There is no company 2 and I can't change it to use company.

Help.

Roger

Company 2 means that when converting it encountered a company. Then it
encountered a reference to the same table which had to be named, but Company
had been used. So it named it Company 2.

Check the scripts that do the gtrr. And that they reference to Company 2.
And that the buttons reference to the correct scripts.

Did you do the conversion of the two files in one go (and not file one and
then file two)? You have to do it that way so FM8.5 recognizes all
references correct.

Sounds like the relationship is not working right, or the layout is not
set up correctly.

1. When you did the conversion, did you convert all the old .fp5 files
at once? That is what you are supposed to do to convert all the
relationships properly. If you convertet them one at a time, the
relationships do not convert.

2. If you did the conversion properly, you may need to rebuild some of
the relationships. Use File >> Define Database >> Relationships to get
at the relationships and fix any that are broken. Presumably you did a
straight conversion, so the different tables are still in different
files. Table Occurrences for external files are set up on the basis of
File References, which are defined explicitly in FMP 8. Be sure the
Table Occurrences of external files are correctly defined with correct
File References.

3. Be sure the layouts are set up correctly. In FMP 8, each layouts is
set up in the context of one or another Table Occurrence. If a layout is
not set up in the proper context, portals and other things will not work
as expected.
